Extensive traffic restrictions will be introduced in Riga during the city’s birthday celebrations. Vehicle traffic will be closed on the 11 November Embankment and in the Old Town, while stopping and parking bans will also be introduced. The use of micromobility vehicles and vessels will be restricted in certain areas.
Public transport and municipal paid parking lots will be free of charge on 15 and 16 August.
Traffic Restrictions on the 11 November Embankment
From 11 August to 16 August at 24:00, vehicles will be prohibited from stopping and parking on both sides of the 11 November Embankment between Akmens Bridge and Muitas Street. The restriction will also apply to the parallel street adjacent to the embankment on the Old Town side, between Poļu Gate, Jauniela and Bīskapa Gate.
Vehicles left in violation of the restrictions will be towed to another parking location. The restrictions will not apply to vehicles with special permits, diplomatic vehicles or emergency and operational vehicles.
From 11 August at 6:00 to 16 August at 24:00, vehicle traffic will be closed on the section of the 11 November Embankment between Akmens Bridge and Muitas Street, as well as on the parallel street on the Old Town side between Poļu Gate and Jauniela.
During this period, traffic lights will be switched off on the 11 November Embankment and at the intersection of Muitas and Eksporta streets.
If necessary, two-way traffic will be organized on Dome Square and Pils Street from 6:00 to 12:00 on 15 August, and from 4:00 to 24:00 on 16 August.
Vehicle traffic in Old Riga will be closed on 15 August
From 15 August at 12:00 to 16 August at 4:00, vehicle traffic will be closed throughout Old Town area.
From 15 August at 10:00 to 16 August at 4:00 micromobility parking areas in the Old Town and on the 11 November Embankment will also be closed.
On 15 and 16 August, the use of electric scooters, bicycles, cycle rickshaws, electric vehicles and horse-drawn carriages will be prohibited on the 11 November Embankment, in the Old Town and at other event venues.
Stopping and Parking Restrictions
From 13 August at 7:00 to 16 August at 8:00 vehicles will be prohibited from stopping and parking on the right side of Aspazijas Boulevard in the section between Krišjāņa Barona Street and Kaļķu Street.
From 14 August at 17:00 to 16 August at 8:00, stopping and parking will be prohibited on both sides of Kaļķu Street in the section between the 11 November Embankment and Town Hall Square (Rātslaukums). Vehicle traffic will also be closed on this section of Kaļķu Street.
From 14 August at 20:00 to 16 August at 8:00, stopping and parking will be prohibited on the right side of Krišjāņa Barona Street between Elizabetes Street and Merķeļa Street.
From 14 August at 20:00 to 16 August at 12:00, stopping and parking will be prohibited in the parking area at the intersection of 13 January Street and Aspazijas Boulevard.
Shipping Restrictions
If necessary, shipping traffic will be restricted on the Daugava between Akmens Bridge and Vanšu Bridge from 11 August at 10:00 to 16 August at 20:00.
On 15 August from 23:00 to 24:00, shipping traffic on this section of the Daugava will be completely closed.
Other Restrictions
From August 15 to 17, in Old Riga, on the 11. novembra embankment and other event venues, in accordance with the instructions of the event organizers, it will be prohibited to use sound-amplifying equipment unrelated to the event.
From 15 to 17 August, the use of sound-amplifying equipment unrelated to the official events will be prohibited in the Old Town, on the 11 November Embankment and at other event venues, in accordance with the instructions from the event organizers.
From 16 August at 00:00 to 17 August at 8:00, the sale of ice cream and fast food will be restricted on the 11 November Embankment and the street parallel to it between Akmens Bridge and Muitas Street. The restriction will not apply to sales organized by the event organizers.
The traffic and other restrictions have been introduced in connection with several events taking place as part of Riga’s birthday celebrations, including the “Open Riga! Code 825!” event on the 11 November Embankment, the crafts market in Dome Square, events in Vērmanes Garden and Uzvaras Park, and other activities included in the official celebration programme.
