The cultural event “Voice of Lake Māras. Into the Depths” explores water as a vital element of Pārdaugava’s natural landscape, cultural and historical memory, and urban environment through music, performance, dance, and environmental education.
Programme
17:00–19:00 Opening and Community Programme: “Who Lives in Lake Māras?”
In collaboration with the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology, creative and educational workshops for children and adults invite visitors to discover the rich ecosystem of Lake Māras. Together with the institute’s researchers, participants will explore the lake’s biodiversity, discuss examine water quality, and learn about the importance of urban water bodies.
18:00–19:00 Conversations Between Science and Art
Conversations on the past, present, and future of Lake Māras and the Mārupīte River, focusing on water quality, recreational opportunities, the sustainability of urban waters, and the role of water bodies in the urban environment.
20:00–21:20 Concert Performance: “What Does Water Know?”
A multidisciplinary performance created by opera singer Katrīna Paula Felsberga, pianist Justine Eckhaut (France), and performance artist Beāte Poikāne.
21:20–22:20 Jēkabs Nīmanis Quartet concert
22:20–23:00 Concert of the group Tante Gaida
23:00–00:00 Ambient and experimental music programme by Spāre Vītola concluding the evening with a meditative ambient and experimental music set, creating an immersive sound experience by the water.
Throughout the event, a café will be open, and visitors will have the opportunity to rent watercraft to enjoy the concerts from the lake.
