Opening Concert: “City Frequency”

The opening event celebrating Riga’s 825th birthday will transform Town Hall Square into a contemporary urban stage, where electronic music, light, technology and people merge into a single immersive experience.

Inspired by the concept of the Riga summer cultural program “OPEN RIGA! CODE: 825!”, the event interprets the city as a living organism, where every person, sound, pulse of light and encounter contributes to Riga’s unique frequency. Throughout the evening, the musical and visual narrative gradually evolves from an atmospheric opening to an energetic climax, culminating in a monumental light installation and an electronic music programme that transforms Town Hall Square into a dynamic audiovisual environment.

The evening opens with Maarja Nuut & Nicolas Stocker (EE/CH), an international duo whose performances blend Maarja Nuut’s atmospheric electronics, voice and violin with Nicolas Stocker’s polyrhythmic, experimental sound to create a hypnotic contemporary audiovisual experience. They will be followed by Evija Vēbere (LV), one of Latvia’s most distinctive alternative music artists, whose signature style fuses electronic music, jazz, hip-hop esthetics and experimental pop. The international dimension will be complemented by Solo Ansamblis (LT), a Lithuanian ensemble that combines electronics, live instruments and emotionally charged texts, creating a hypnotic audiovisual performance. The evening will culminate with Oil X Gas (LV), an industrial rock and electronic music duo, who will close the event with a powerful live performance, synthesizer soundscapes and techno energy whose powerful live performance, driving synthesizer soundscapes and techno-inspired energy will fully activate the monumental light installation. The concert is free of charge and open to all, offering Riga residents and visitors alike a high-quality contemporary cultural experience.
