Perseid Night with Reinis Zariņš at the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia

 On August 13, the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia will host the interdisciplinary cultural event “Perseid Night with Reinis Zariņš”, bringing together piano music, night sky observation, and a shared experience of presence.

The highlight of the event will be pianist Reinis Zariņš’s solo concert, “Great Night Music”, featuring a programme inspired by the Perseid meteor shower, the natural world, the passage of time, and the distinctive atmosphere of the night.

Alongside the concert, visitors will have the opportunity to observe the Perseid meteor shower and other celestial objects through telescopes. The event continues the “Perseid Night” tradition launched at the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia in 2025, offering a unique blend of high-quality cultural programming and astronomical observation in one of the few locations in Riga with minimal light pollution.

22:00 – Perseid meteor shower observation and lecture
Visitors are invited to spend a leisurely summer night in the Botanical Garden, listening to the sounds of nature while observing the starry sky. Telescopes, provided in collaboration with ieskaties.lv, will be available for viewing celestial objects and the spectacular Perseid meteor shower.

22:45 – Pianist Reinis Zariņš: Solo Concert “Great Night Music”
The programme features compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Arvo Pärt, Philip Glass, Johannes Brahms, Olivier Messiaen, and other composers, alongside improvisations by Reinis Zariņš.
