A musical play for the whole family, inspired by Rutki’s father, a Latvian writer and playwright of the second half of the 19th century.
This production contains everything a Latvian theatre audience could wish for: elements of a crime drama and a romantic intrigue, fascinating historical investigations, astonishing transformations, swapped corpses, and even alchemical experiments. The story takes place in the spring of 1582, during the calendar riots in Riga, when the people of Riga held their own views about the order being established across Europe.
Through the seemingly light-hearted form of a musical play, the director invites the audience to reflect on the peculiarities of the national character, both then and now.
The cast features beloved actors, musicians, and members of the Riga Cathedral Boys’ Choir.
The director of the performance is Klāvs Mellis, composer Ernests Mediņš, conductor and artistic director of the Riga Cathedral Boys’ Choir is Mārtiņš Klišāns.
