Riga Summer Program Kicks Off with Left Bank Festival in Uzvaras Park

This year, Riga celebrates its 825th anniversary, and everyone is invited to enjoy a diverse lineup of cultural events throughout August. The capital’s anniversary month begins with the Left Bank Festival in Uzvaras Park. Throughout August, residents and visitors are invited to experience Musical Parks at the Dzegužkalns open-air stage, Vērmane Garden, and Ziemeļblāzma Park. The celebration will reach its climax on August 15, when Riga’s official birthday will be celebrated.

Left Bank Festival: August 1

The Riga Summer event program kicks off on August 1 with an all-day Left Bank Festival in Uzvaras Park. The festival invites guests to rediscover Riga as an open city for open-minded people. The day will feature creative workshops, interactive activities, performances, sporting events, concerts by emerging musicians, and a dedicated food zone hosted by participants of the European Street Food Awards Latvia leg.

Musical Lineup

The first part of the day will showcase some of Latvia’s most promising young performers including:

• Laiki, whose distinctive sound blends rock, art rock, and original poetry. The band won Radio NABA’s young musicians contest Hadrons 2025 and recently released its debut single, Ej, tu māksliniek!.
• Gaisaa, a fusion of pop, funk, and indie influences into a melodic, contemporary sound that has already earned the group radio chart success across Latvia.
• Idille, an indie rock band featuring experienced musicians who have collaborated with artists including Aminata, Ozols, Kautkaili, and Carnival Youth. The band is set to release a new album this summer.
• Roberts Peičs and his band.

Festival Highlights & Activities

• “Riga Passport”: Upon entry, visitors will receive a Riga Passport— a festival event map that also serves as a personal activity guide. Participants will contribute to the creation of a collaborative environmental art installation entitled Open Riga.
• Performance Zone: A dedicated performance zone will bring together movement, music, and science throughout the day. Younger visitors can enjoy a sensory theatre performance exploring the theme of waterways in nature, while the internationally renowned AHHAA Science Centre will present spectacular live science demonstrations.
• Skatepark Events: The festival’s skate park will feature professional demonstrations and masterclasses in BMX, skateboarding, rollerblading, and scooter riding. Visitors of all skill levels—from complete beginners to experienced riders—will have the opportunity to learn from professional athletes and try the sports themselves.

Celebrations Throughout August

Riga’s birthday celebrations will continue throughout the month, reaching their peak on 15 August with the city’s main birthday event, “Open Riga! Code: 825,” on the 11 November Embankment featuring the programme for audiences of all ages.

As part of the opening celebrations on 1 August, a new mural inspired by Riga’s 825th anniversary will be unveiled on the building at 46 Eduarda Smiļģa Street, adding an artistic landmark to the festivities.

This year’s anniversary slogan, “Open Riga! Code: 825,” reflects the spirit of a vibrant, diverse, and welcoming city.
