The campaign is dedicated to one of Latvia\u2019s most iconic desserts \u2013 the \u201cVecr\u012bga\u201d cream puff. Its aim is to encourage pride in our flavours and culinary heritage. When travelling to other countries, we often seek out local culinary symbols \u2013 this summer, Riga invites everyone to discover and savour its sweetest secret.<\/p>\n<p>Just as Portugal takes pride in Pastel de Nata, Latvia has its own sweet symbol of the city \u2013 the \u201cVecr\u012bga\u201d cream puff. It is not only a popular dessert but also part of Latvia\u2019s culinary heritage and Riga\u2019s story of flavour, which is worth discovering both for Riga residents and visitors to the city.<\/p>\n<p>The story of the \u201cVecr\u012bga\u201d cream puff is closely connected to Riga and its confectionery traditions. The recipe for the cake named \u201cVecr\u012bga\u201d was developed as a qualification project by confectioner Ilm\u0101rs Uldis C\u012brulis (1927\u20131985), together with confectioner Vilhelms P\u012br\u0101gs (1907\u20131986). Both master confectioners also worked at the famous \u201cCh. J\u00fcrgenson\u2013Otto Schwarz\u201d caf\u00e9 in Riga. This is one version of the pastry\u2019s origin story; should readers know another, perhaps more accurate version, we would be pleased to hear it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRiga\u2019s 825th anniversary is an excellent opportunity to remind both Riga residents and visitors to the city of the values that make us unique. The Riga Investment and Tourism Agency (RITA) is therefore organising a campaign aimed at reminding everyone that the \u201cVecr\u012bga\u201d cream puff is not merely a dessert \u2013 it is part of our gastronomic identity and a story about Riga that can be savoured,\u201d emphasises Fredis Bikovs, Director of RITA.<\/p>\n<p>During the campaign, a special map of \u201cVecr\u012bga\u201d cream puff will be created to help residents and tourists find places where they can taste different interpretations of this dessert.
